Manual focus

I want to challenge the idea that manual focus won’t work when you have to shoot. So I tried it in some different conditions. Why I have choose this topic well because I spoke with one DSLR owner recently who hadn’t even noticed the manual/auto focus switch on the side of his lens however many cameras also give options for different focusing modes (auto, continuous focusing for moving subjects and manual). Let me say first there is no right or wrong time to use either manual or auto focusing I´m pretty well aware that both can produce great results in almost all situations however there are a few times when you might find it easier to switch to manual focusing. Shooting in manual focus mode is a skill that you need to learn and practice. While you will have more time to get it right when shooting still objects it can become more difficult when shooting moving subjects.

  2. I tend to use manual focus for most of the macro shots but the camera does a decent job in auto focus for landscape and still life shots. I recently discovered that it works well for portraits if the subject is still. It seems fast and reliable but it’s unsuitable for work with the macro lens. Interesting post.

    • WHAAAT your DSLR comes with a highly advanced autofocus system, so why on earth would you want to use manual focus? XD
….well actually there are some very good reasons and you named it ;P greetings

  3. I have known nothing but manual focus till I switched to digital SLR about 7 years ago – and believe me – you get to be very fast that way… and depending on the circumstances you make use of other settings to have some help of your depth of field to pick up the stray ones…

The autofocus of the digital camera was not really undivided pleasure in the beginning… it is as much a learning proces. And I agree that sometimes you just have to turn it off… ;-)
